Mini-Session FAQ: What to Expect the Day of Your Family Photoshoot

With fall mini-sessions fast approaching and quickly booking up my email is being flooded with questions from clients wondering what they can do to prepare for their mini-sessions. Instead of answering them one by one (which I am still happy to do!) I decided to round up my most frequently asked questions and share them with you all today!

1. What are these fall mini-sessions all about?

Courtney Hizey Photography has an increase in demand at certain times of the year, with fall being the most popular. Mini-sessions help me accomodate more families since the sessions are shorter and booked one after another.

They are good for those families that want updated family photos but don't necessarily need or want to spend too much time required with a full photography session. Our fall mini-sessions also make it easier on those who groan when they hear the word "family photos" (Dads and teenage boys, I'm looking at you here.) 15-20 minutes for a photoshoot, no problem!!

2. What should we wear?

Best tip... be comfortable in whatever it is you pick! Have a patterned dress that you love to wear? Great, take colors from within the pattern and bring those colors into your family members outfits. Layers and textures look great and accessories are also good for adding little splashes of color. Your family doesn't have to be too matchy-matchy to produce a great photo! Instead, just choose a basic color palette and go from there!

Need a little help and inspiration when planning outfits for your fall mini-shoot? I'd like to say that I have become a great resource but truthfully, I refer all my clients to Danielle, my great friend and professional stylist at HubFashion. She is high in demand with a lot of my clients and has helped me style quite a few beautiful photoshoots!

3. When should we arrive?

Because we book these fall mini-sessions back-to-back, there is no wiggle room. If you are running late I unfortunately cannot give you extra time during your session since it would push back each session following. Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early, that way we can be sure to get all the photos you were hoping for of your beautiful family!

4. How many people can I bring with me?

These fall mini-sessions are designated for families and children and unfortunately we cannot accommodate anyone that is not immediate family. If you would like to book a session with extended family I would recommend a full session, at least one hour long.

5. What is your cancellation policy?

Mini-sessions are non-refundable and cannot be cancelled. Please make sure before booking that you are available on the date and time you book! If you absolutely cannot make your session and you cancel with at least 24 hours notice, you will receive a credit towards a future session.

6. What if it rains, do you offer a rain date?

YES! Rain dates are always announced prior to booking. Please be sure you are available for both dates in the case of bad weather. If for some reason you cannot make the rain date and you cancel with more then 24 hours notice you can use the credit towards a future session.

7. Can I give or sell my mini-session to someone else?

YES! Absolutely. You can gift or sell your mini-session if you are unable to attend.

8. How long before I receive my proofs back?

You will receive your proofs back fairly quickly during the holiday season but it could take up to 14 business days so please, schedule accordingly. I understand most everyone will be using the images from the mini-sessions for holiday cards and gifts so I am focusing on a quick turnaround.

Image proofs will be emailed via a private online gallery link for you to view and order from. You will receive the email within 3-4 days after your session. There will be a cut-off date that a rush fee will be applied to if an order has not been placed yet.

9. Can I purchase more images then what is included in my package?

Yes, you can purchase extra images that were not included in your package. Please see the a'la carte pricing page for a price list on digitals and prints.

10. I want to schedule something outside of a mini-session because I would like to have an extended family shoot done. How do I schedule that?

You can certainly do that. Please keep in mind space is limited this time of year and you will want to reserve your date asap. Email me at or you can book a spot here.
